Creating A World Without Barriers
The Rick Hansen Foundation was established in 1988, following the completion of Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour, to continue raising funds and awareness to create a world without barriers for people with disabilities.

Over nearly 30 years, we have worked diligently to achieve real change through collaboration, partnerships and teamwork, inspired by Rick Hansen's original dream to liberate the amazing potential of people with disabilities. While we have made great strides towards creating an accessible and inclusive world, our work is not yet done. Join our global movement to ensure that everyone has an equal chance at participating fully in life.

What We Do
We break down barriers for people with disabilities by changing attitudes, creating accessible spaces and inspiring an inclusive society. Find our more about our work >

Our Vision
An inclusive world where people with disabilities are living to their full potential.

Our Mission
To inspire leaders, influencers and the public to join Rick Hansen in creating a global movement to remove barriers and liberate the amazing potential of people with disabilities.

Our Cause
Today, there are more than 1.3 billion people living with some form of a disability, and the numbers are growing. Around the world, people with disabilities not only face physical barriers but also attitudinal, social and economic barriers that limit their full participation in life.
Our Program at a Glance

Quality of Life Initiatives
We provide grants for equipment and assistance that improve the quality of life of individuals with disabilities.

Through the Rick Hansen School Program, we provide free resources to schools to raise awareness and support teaching about the potential of people with disabilities, accessibility and inclusion, and the power students have to make a difference in their communities.

Planat is an online tool that allows users to view and rate the accessibility of places worldwide. With Planat, people with accessibility needs can prepare their trips and outings beforehand and search while on the go. Businesses can also use it to promote their accessibility features while gathering valuable feedback to make improvements.

World-leading Research
At the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre, we bring together experts to accelerate progress in prevention, care and cure of paralysis after spinal cord injury.
