Supporting Richmond Hospital

Richmond Chamber of Commerce Supports Richmond Hospital

CALLING ALL RICHMOND LEADERS!

Will you join the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in calling on Premier Horgan and his government to honour their election commitment to build a new Acute Care Tower at the Richmond Hospital, on the fastest timeline possible?

With the budget scheduled for announcement in February 2018, it’s time to ensure that Richmond’s residents, employees and visitors get the new hospital tower that our community deserves. We are asking local business owners, senior managers, and community leaders like you, to sign on to the attached letter, which we will send to Premier Horgan and his government in early February. We hope that we can count on your support.

What we need from you by Monday, January 22nd:

  • Send us an email to rcc@richmondchamber.ca with your full name, position and organization name
  • Attach a scanned signature on a white background (jpeg, png or pdf) or come into our office to sign in person (#202 - 5811 Cooney Road, Richmond)
  • Include the approximate number of people you employ in Richmond

Why we’re asking for your support:

  • The Richmond Hospital is a business issue because it’s an everyone issue. It serves 218,000+ local  residents, 100,000+ Richmond based employees, 20+ million annual visitors coming through Richmond based YVR, and our neighbours in South Delta and South Vancouver
  • In a moderate earthquake over half of the beds at the Richmond Hospital are at severe risk and all 8 operating rooms are at risk. Serious damage to the hospital would compound any disaster. Built over 50 years ago, it currently meets only 17% of the seismic code.
  • Richmond Hospital has only 0.9 beds per 1000 residents, compared to 1.9 beds per 1000 residents averaged in B.C. With the fastest growing seniors population in the province, we can’t afford to be left behind.
