Workplace Health & Safety During COVID-19
As many of our businesses get “back to work” many questions arise. Richmond’s employers want to keep staff and stakeholders healthy and well. On June 17, 2020, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce partnered with the BC Chamber and WorkSafeBC to host a webinar on workplace health and safety during COVID-19, sponsored by Signarama Richmond.

About the Presenter:
Chris Back, Director of OHS Consultation & Education Services at WorkSafeBC
Consultation & Education Services serves the workers and employers of BC by positively influencing health & safety behaviours and disability management practices through partnerships, consultation, and outreach. Chris has been with WorkSafeBC for six years. Before moving into the Director role, Chris managed the manufacturing & retail portfolio as well as the construction portfolio in Consultation & Education Services. Prior to WorkSafeBC, he held various leadership positions in health and safety and disability management, primarily in the healthcare industry. Chris is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist and holds an MBA from Royal Roads.
COVID-19 and the Economy: Where we go from here
COVID-19 is an unprecedented challenge for the global health system and our economy. The pandemic has triggered a cascade of temporary business closures and job loss across Canada and within B.C. We are likely through the worst of the economic downturn and can set our sights on the recovery which is unlikely to be swift, nor a return to normal operations. This webinar discusses the economic impacts of COVID-19 on the regional economy, and Central 1’s expectations for the recovery of the economy and impacts on housing markets, presented by Central 1’s Deputy Chief Economist, Bryan Yu.

Bryan Yu, Deputy Chief Economist, Central 1 Credit Union
Bryan Yu is Deputy Chief Economist with Central 1 Credit Union. He has 15 years of experience covering Canadian macro- and regional economic conditions, financial markets, immigration, and housing market activity. For the past decade he has provided economic advisory services to Canada’s credit union network, and Central 1 risk management, strategy, and treasury management functions. He is a proponent of integrating macro-economic analysis with strategic planning, enterprise risk management, and across business lines.
Bryan speaks regularly at industry conferences and credit union strategic planning sessions. His work has been featured by various media outlets including the Globe and Mail, BNN, Bloomberg and BC Business. His weekly column can be found in Business in Vancouver.
Learnings from Disruption
On June 4, 2020 Heidi Hamilton, Principal, Priority Solutions shared insights into some of the strategies and tactics employed by top CEO’s to support their business and team during disruption. The specific focus was on some key lessons learnt and shared by her CEO and Executive facilitated groups. The discussion covered which tactics and strategies are being taken forward into the “new normal” to ensure business sustainability and a stronger, values-based team culture.

Leadership through effective communication is essential for any organization. It is always important but is particularly crucial during a crisis. This session will guide participants how to lead through effective communication. It will also provide recommendations on how to effectively use virtual communications tools such as Zoom and MS teams to maintain important internal and external relationships.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Dr. Darren Francis is an experienced educator and post-secondary administrator, having worked at four different universities throughout his career. He started his career in academic advising, supporting students with their academic and career plans, before moving into post-secondary administration where he worked in a variety of leadership roles. Currently, Darren is Chair of the Applied Communications department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
