The Rainmaker’s Dilemma: How your Greatest Strength can become a Debilitating Weakness
On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, Richard Vetter and Matt Vetter of Wealthsmart Inc. presented their webinar “The Rainmakers’ Dilemma” to members of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
Wisdom tells us that business owners achieve success when focusing on their strengths.
While an owner who leverages their strengths can catapult their business to a successful start, a study of 23,158 companies suggests that there may be a downside. Almost half of the founders analyzed are the primary revenue driver for their company. Owners who assume the role of Rainmaker can rapidly accelerate business growth but eventually hit a ceiling. Revenue begins to stagnate and business value plateaus, forcing owners to confront the Rainmaker’s Dilemma.
This presentation will provide actionable steps an owner can take to increase their company’s value while avoiding the downhill trap of becoming the rainmaker. We will cover 9 strategies to help owners transition from Rainmaker to Architect of their business.

Workplace Health & Safety During COVID-19

Chris Back, Director of OHS Consultation & Education Services at WorkSafeBC
Consultation & Education Services serves the workers and employers of BC by positively influencing health & safety behaviours and disability management practices through partnerships, consultation, and outreach. Chris has been with WorkSafeBC for six years. Before moving into the Director role, Chris managed the manufacturing & retail portfolio as well as the construction portfolio in Consultation & Education Services. Prior to WorkSafeBC, he held various leadership positions in health and safety and disability management, primarily in the healthcare industry. Chris is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist and holds an MBA from Royal Roads.

Bryan Yu is Deputy Chief Economist with Central 1 Credit Union. He has 15 years of experience covering Canadian macro- and regional economic conditions, financial markets, immigration, and housing market activity. For the past decade he has provided economic advisory services to Canada’s credit union network, and Central 1 risk management, strategy, and treasury management functions. He is a proponent of integrating macro-economic analysis with strategic planning, enterprise risk management, and across business lines.

Dr. Darren Francis is an experienced educator and post-secondary administrator, having worked at four different universities throughout his career. He started his career in academic advising, supporting students with their academic and career plans, before moving into post-secondary administration where he worked in a variety of leadership roles. Currently, Darren is Chair of the Applied Communications department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
